SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Scholarship Applications for B09, B00 and B01 teams must be submitted by March 15, 2018 with all financial paperwork to support the application completed and turned in by 8:00 p.m. (pacific) March 31, 2018.  Scholarship Applications for all other teams must be submitted by June 1, 2017 with all financial paperwork to support the application completed and turned in by 8:00 p.m. (pacific) June 16,  2018.

APPLICATIONS: Washington East Soccer Club, a Washington non-profit corporation (“WESC”) provides a limited amount of financial assistance scholarships to youth players whose families are unable to pay the full cost of their training fees.  Registration fees are not eligible for financial assistance and all players must pay that fee regardless of whether a scholarship is awarded for all or some training fees.  WESC grants scholarships on the basis of financial need, (NOT player ability) and requires information to determine the need for an award.

 

To be considered for eligibility, the participant’s family calendar year income must be within the income eligibility guidelines for the calendar year ending in 2016.

*HOUSEHOLD is defined as all persons, including parents, children, grandparents, and all people related or unrelated who live in your home and share living expenses. If applying for a household with a foster child, you may include the foster child in the total household size.

 

**HOUSEHOLD INCOME is considered to be the income each household member received before taxes.  This includes wages, social security, pension, welfare, child support, unemployment, alimony, and any other cash income. If including a foster child as part of the household, you must also include the foster child’s personal income. Do not report foster payments as income.

 

QUALIFICATION: For participants who receive free and reduced lunch, scholarships will be awarded and cover a percentage of training fees up to 100%, subject to the availability of WESC scholarship funds.

 

For participants who do not receive free and reduced lunch, scholarships may be awarded and cover a percentage of training fees, subject to the availability of WESC scholarship funds.

 

PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY: The following documents, collectively known as the “Scholarship Application,” must be submitted in their entirety for consideration of a scholarship award.

 

  • WESC Scholarship Application
  • Internal Revenue Service form 1040 (or form 1040s) and all schedules or 2016 for the parent/guardian(s) who claim the participant as a dependent on their tax return.  If married filing separately, both parent’s FORM 1040’s must be included. If divorced, the parent who claims the participant as a dependent for tax year 2016 must be provided.

Players must complete registration via WESC standard online registration and pay the nonrefundable $250 registration fee before scholarship applications can be reviewed.

 

Although not needed at the time of the initial application, WESC reserves the right to request the following information if needed to verify income:

 

  • All W2’s or 1099’s and other documents that support total annual income
  • Internal Revenue Service Form 4506 Request for Copy of Tax Return authorizing WESC  to obtain a copy of Form 1040(s) submitted to the Internal Revue Service.

 

Incomplete scholarship applications will be returned and the applicant will be asked to provide the information.

 

Complete scholarship applications are considered for assistance at the sole discretion of WESC provided that scholarship funds are available.  Any assistance granted will be based entirely on the income and information stated in this scholarship application form.  Extenuating circumstances may be also considered at the sole discretion of WESC and, if this applies to your situation, please attach to this scholarship application a written explanation of what those extenuating circumstances are.

 

Players requesting scholarships are permitted to start training as soon as the online registration is completed, the nonrefundable $250 registration fee is paid and the Scholarship application is submitted.

 

If less than a 100% scholarship is offered to a player for his/her training fees, the participant must make payments and remain current with all remaining training fees in order to continue to receive financial assistance.  Players who are not granted scholarships will be required to make payments and remain current with all training fees prior to practicing or playing in games for WESC. As a last resort, WESC reserves the right to withhold player cards for non-payment of training fees.

 

Scholarship applications must be completed for each seasonal year.

 

REGISTRATION FEES: Any scholarship provided for training fees, does not cover the club registration fee.  All participants are responsible to pay the Club’s full nonrefundable registration fee of $250 prior to receipt of any scholarship award.

 

UNIFORM COSTS: Any scholarship provided for training fees does not cover or include uniform charges. All participants are responsible to pay in full for all required items of the club’s uniform kit.

 

INDIVIDUAL TEAM FEES: Any scholarship provided for training fees does not cover or include individual team charges such as tournament registrations, coaches travel expenses etc… All participants are responsible to pay their portion of team specific charges in full.

 

PRIVACY STATEMENT: WESC will not use the information submitted in the scholarship application for any purpose other than to consider it for an award of a scholarship. The information provided will not be shared with anyone beyond the current WESC Operating Board.

 

NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT : WESC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability. Any scholarships offered are at the sole discretion of WESC.

 

SCHOLARSHIP WITHDRAWAL and ELIGIBILITY TERMINATION:  Scholarships may be withdrawn at the sole discretion of WESC in the event any information provided in the Scholarship Application is found to be incorrect. In this instance, players may be removed from WESC activities or player cards may be withheld by WESC.

Scholarship awards may also be withdrawn by WESC if the player’s family does not remain current in all club registrations fees, training fees not covered by assistance, or if the player does not finish the current seasonal year with WESC.  In the event that a scholarship is withdrawn by WESC, for any reason, the undersigned acknowledges and agrees that they will be responsible to pay back the full amount awarded/received up until the time it was withdrawn, retroactive to the beginning of the season. By applying for scholarship assistance, the undersigned expressly consents to and understands that participants may be removed from current activities and may not be allowed to participate in future activities at WESC if information provided in the Scholarship Application is found to be incorrect.
